Fire by Kristin Cashore
Pages:480
Genre:Fantasy, mystery, and a bit of romance
Rating:50/10
Summary:
"She is the last of her kind...
It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. War is coming. And the mountains and forest are filled with spies and thieves. This is where Fire lives, a girl whose beauty is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her. Exquisitely romantic, this companion to the highly praised Graceling has an entirely new cast of characters, save for one person who plays a pivotal role in both books. You don’t need to have read Graceling to love Fire. But if you haven’t, you’ll be dying to read it next."
My Review:
Fire was exceptional, but it wasn't perfect. I feel it didn't have enough humor or life in its' characters. However, if you liked Graceling, you will most assuredly love Fire. It reads fairly quickly, never getting dull 'till the end. In Graceling, reading the last 30 pages felt like a chore. I already knew what was going to happen. The ending was a bit less predictable in this book.
I got sucked into the story by the first page. Though it is a prequel, the kingdom Fire lives in is a completely different world. It was interesting to imagine what it would be like to have everyone desire you. To have beauty so great that it is intoxicating just to look at yourself. I guess it's not as great as it sounds.
The seven kingdoms are brought to life with Kristin's' wonderful writing. I could almost see the dozens of raptor monsters roaming the skies. Everything is detailed, unique, and vivid.
Overall, I applaud Kristin Cashore on her imaginative mind and her ability to spin a spellbinding story.
